Cats on the Cumbre
Morning
I would like to firstly ask about the neutering program on the Cumbre for the homeless cats. Is this a regular thing? I heard there are also feeding stations but again I have no confirmation. I would appreciate any info regarding the help these cats are receiving if any. Does anyone know which charities are involved?
I would like to mention my personal feeling towards them. I'm an animal lover and have my own cats in England. We have just returned home from a beautiful two weeks in our apartment in Monte Cala and I can honestly say the stray cats are the sweetest nature. They sit and wait patiently in the hope they may get some food and who can blame them? I watched them play and nuzzle but constantly on the search for food. It must be exhausting for them.
One of my neighbours complained to me last September about feeding them. I asked if he had a solution and his answer was that they should move on and be somebody else's problem. These people worry me as I think they're capable of being cruel which is concerning.
We've had our apartment since 2004 and there have always been cats because people abandon their own cats and therein lies the problem. These cats haven't asked for this life and I would ask for people to show some kindness by at least not shooing them away. They are scared enough.
I'm not in Spain enough right now but from September this year we intend spending longer periods in our home there and I would like to be more involved with their welfare and will research how to do this in the meantime.
I did notice a change in attitudes this last holiday and I hope this is a trend because these animals need our help if only on a small scale. They're not going anywhere. It's their home too and it's a shame to see how desperate they are just for a show of kindness and a little food.
Thanks for hearing me out.
Joanne
