Hi.  We are Dianne and Doug, a retired couple staying in Cumbre del Sol for 6 weeks.  We are thinking of doing a long term rent (6 months or so) later in the year but would really like to meet up with some expats to get their feelings on living here (our ultimate aim).  We would also like to learn Spanish and wonder if anyone knows of anywhere we could get some tuition for the six weeks that we are here.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who is willing to give us any information.

Thanks for your reply RayD.  We are actually English people living in England and are currently just exploring the idea of moving here.  I admit we haven’t done much research yet and had no idea that there would be any tax implications!  Is there anywhere you can recommend that I can find out all this sort if information please?

Thanks

Dianne

Jim’s Guides, on this site, may have answers to some of the queries that you will have.   Also, the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain site may be of assistance regarding general bureaucracy.   For anything to do with driving in Spain have a look at the N332 site.   The latter is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil for English speaking people and has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code.   However, bear in mind that many provinces and towns ‘tweek’ the national rules and regulations for their own procedures.

Hi Dianne and Doug,

I live on the Cumbre and have lived in Spain for 2 years. I am happy to meet up or exchange information about living here. I know a large number of people with a variety of experiences and backgrounds.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Adam

It is a wonderful with lots to do if you want it the U3A has lots of activities including Spanish lessons.  Some people have a problem with dealing with health issues but I have had superb treatment for serious problems. Others miss their family but for me I would not go back to the UK my life is full of friends, activities and outdoor living. I would query living on Cumbre, lovely views but a bit of an Island getting up and down to access things.  Hope this helps.

Another thing to realise is that many things may change for Brits after the end of this year.
