Hi  I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. We are planning to buy a house - probably a bit inland - in the Alicante region. Ideally no more than about 40 mins from Alicante Airport. Initially we will be using the house as a holiday home for around 4/5 months of the year, then, long term moving over for good.  Where would people recommend we start looking? We don't want to be in a 'resort' or on a complex with shared facilities. We would like to be within walking distance (around 20 mins max) of bars, restaurants, shops and community life. Probably a country house or finca would suit us best. We are in our 50's and no school age children to cater for. Thank you in advance

Perhaps Fortuna would be worth a look. Many services tailored to expat needs, and even a spa with a year round open air swimming pool.

What is your budget and requirements?  Useless to request and define your wants and price in mind.

A Spanish ‘country house//finca’ is unlikely to be within reasonable walking distance of facilities! And most of them are complete with large areas of, usually, neglected olives/ almonds etc and classified as ‘rural’ by the local authority, thus limiting what you may do with the land and buildings.

Whatever and wherever you buy, check whether the property is fully legal. If not, you would need to budget somewhere in the region of €7000 to €12000 to get it legalised, plus all the hassle involved in doing that.
