OK so I have done the trip many times in the summer but was wondering what it is like in the winter months? Is there a safer route? Coastal over Pyranees? Is it dangerous? Any thoughts appreciated.
I travel in a VW California. Not 4 Motion.

We've done this a couple of times, from S.W. England.
Brittany Ferries to Roscoff then down the French Atlantic coast, overnighting around Bayonne. Cross the border near San Sebastian and then onto Pamplona. There has been snow all around but the roads have been clear, this was in December and January. Once tried Jaca to Pau and whilst the roads were clear they were not major roads and I'm sure that they wouldn't have been a priority to keep open.
