Our sons own an apartment in Campoamor, no one has been there since last September, but the last 3 months electric have been 99 euro, 163 euro and the last one 79 euro.  The6 have had it check3d out and told that there are no faults and they can only take it forward at their own expense, surely this is so wrong.  One of my sons has flown out there last Thursday and actually went to Iberdrola and they said there is nothing wrong, no faulty meter or anyone tapping in our electric.  There has definitely not been anyway squatting in there, anyone any idea what to do next, all people keep saying is ‘well it’s Spain’ I’m sorry you should not be paying these extortionate prices just for standing charge, nothing is switched on.

A friend of mine got a high bill for the Christmas period for their holiday home. After a lot of wondering what was going on a chance remark from a neighbor gave the game away........their trusted key holder has a son who thought it would be nice to have Christmas in a nice house without having to pay any bills!

You can check you consumption on a daily basis via the Iberdrola app

Don’t forget there are standing charges just like in the UK, check them and the consumption on the bills.

Thanks but we were told that the standing charges should be about 25 euro, a lot of difference for an empty,  everything turned off apartment.

I had suspicions once when I used to let my property out before the "tourist licence" hit. I used the IBerdrola site to check consumption which was useful to establish when it was happening.

It transpired that the keyholders were washing and ironing their own stuff when nobody was renting.

Ended up putting a camera to the entrance of the villa. It soon stopped.

Although I haven't rented for quite a while and have no intentions to do so anymore, we now have a trusted keyholder for our own use.

There are some very unscrupulous people out there.

Hi, thanks for replying.  Can I ask which electric company you are with.

As I said one of our sons is out there at moment until today, no one seems to be able to help.  The President of our urbanisation, the local solicitor, and Iberdrola themselves said if you want to take it further he would have to see someone in Alicante, absolutely crazy.

We know no one’s been in there as our friends live locally out there and have the keys and nothing has been used to show someone living there and we completely trust our friends 100%.
