Hi,

You mentioned that there are bills, which in turn should give you a breakdown of charges and what those charges are for. You mention bills of €99, €163 and €79 - but what does this equate to on the bill. If there are charges on the bills for a number of units of electricity used, then if as you say everything is switched off, then it sounds like either someone is using your son's apartment or someone is bypassing the meter. If your son is still here, it would be worthwhile making sure that everything is turned off and checking to see if there is any movement on the meter. Of course he might well have already done this.

Regards,

Bob

At those prices, it HAS to be unit consumption. If Iberdrola have run checks and say there is no fault with the meter and the supply has not been hijacked, then either something like aircon has been left switched on or an appliance is draining the supply. The most likely answer is that someone is gaining entry and using the power.

Our sons own an apartment in Campoamor, no one has been there since last September, but the last 3 months electric have been 99 euro, 163 euro and the last one 79 euro.  The6 have had it check3d out and told that there are no faults and they can only take it forward at their own expense, sur...

...ely this is so wrong.  One of my sons has flown out there last Thursday and actually went to Iberdrola and they said there is nothing wrong, no faulty meter or anyone tapping in our electric.  There has definitely not been anyway squatting in there, anyone any idea what to do next, all people keep saying is ‘well it’s Spain’ I’m sorry you should not be paying these extortionate prices just for standing charge, nothing is switched on.

HELP

If you look on your bill it will show how many kWh have been used during the relevant period, so if someone is getting in and using your flat it will show.   If it shows that power has been used in the flat, it's time to change the locks.

Next time you leave pull out the main fuse next to the meter and totally isolate the flat, you should then only see the standing charge on your bill.  It is unlikely any interlopers will carry a spare fuse.

Thanks Bob for your input, he is coming home today and has turned it all off at the mains.

He will be keeping an eye on the next bills.

It’s just so frustrating when they say there is nothing wrong, common sense should tell them those amounts are wrong when nothing is left switched on.

I am afraid that part of your learning curve living in Spain is that common sense does not apply here and trying to deal with 'authorities' is like pushing water up hill and a more intransigent nation I have never encountered.

Everything is a battle.

Since I moved here a number of years ago I don't think I can ever remember a week when something did not turn out to be a hassle.

That’s the trouble, it’s only used for holidays, since my husband and I, because of I’ll health, can’t go anymore.  We used to spend months at a time there and have some lovely memories and made some lovely friends.

Never mind make the most of the lovely weather, Bob, lovely speaking to you . Bye
