Contact your insurance company at least 30 days before the end of the policy term, stating that you do not want to renew, also if you have Internet banking block the direct debit mandate.

I read somewhere recently that if you’re changing to a new insurance provider they may inform the old provider of the change? Or if you’re using a broker they will do the same? If you’re doing it yourself contact the insurance company and inform them that you do not want to renew and you will be cancelling the payment, I am also on the understanding you have to do this at least one month before the policy is to be renewed.

Put it in writing using good old fashioned snail mail. Send it a couple of months in advance. Put it in Spanish, use Google translate to write it. Obviously quote policy number, etc. If it was arranged via broker or bank branch, send copy to them too.

I did all this when I cancelled my first house insurance policy renewal. It was with Sabadell, arranged through their Denia branch with their insurance arm based up near Barcelona.

I agree with Jack. You can also send your letter registered by requesting 'registrado' at the post office counter. That way the company know you can evidence your cancellation.

Hi guys thankyou for all the info,I have recently sent a cancellation letter to my mate in Spain. He has been to my insurers local office near PuntaPrima and and avised them to cancel the policy renewal in 2021 the letter has been stamped with the official compay stamp.I have also received an email to confirm, that it will not be renewed on due date. However I have received notification Aviso de Renovacion de Poliza will be renewed on 15/2/2021.How do I block the renewal just to be on the safe side.Any help on blocking future payments would be heaven  Bankinter has no facility on line for me to block this payment Stay safe guys .

Bankinter online banking should have a facility for you to cancel direct debits, if you can translate the site obviously look for wording direct debits in force or in Spanish under Domiciliaciones, if present click on the direct debit you want to cancel and then do as instructed. Good luck, stay safe and healthy, merry Christmas my friend.
