Hi - I am in the process of buying a property in Les Rotes in Denia to live in rather than let out.  I have visited and appreciate what a lovely place it is, but I am a little worried about how I will pass my time having had a strong work ethic all my life (age 54) and wonder if it is even feasible to get part time work as an English speaker.  I am learning Spanish online and in classes and have a degree in Commercial Interior Design and interests in singing and property management (don't we all)... does anyone have any tips on the chances of part time employment please? ... by the way I appreciate that it is very much a Spanish speaking (but international) community and so cleaning or similar would be fine.

I'm afraid that you will find that all the part time and menial type jobs will have long waiting lists and jobs usually go to people "who they know"

There are always voluntary work available if you're not bothered about the money side of it.

I retired early to Benidorm and i always seem to be on the go most days doing something or other.

All the best anyway.

If you've made the decision to live in Denia, congratulations, it's a great place. My advice would be to do exactly what you're doing - learn the language so that you can integrate with Spanish culture. If you mix with Spanish people you will find it rewarding, and being able to communicate will help when looking for work.

Bear in mind there are few British businesses there compared to Costa Blanca south and finding work for a British business would be difficult. You need to be financially secure in case you don't find work for some time.

Good luck with the move, hope it all goes well.

Hi - Thanks for that and I thought that might be the case. Voluntary work sounds a good idea and I will look into it. Cheers

Hi - Thanks for the reply. I had seen plenty of You Tube and online  information before visiting and so gathered that may be the case...Still it does seem an amazing place and I may have to find other ways to fill my time. Thanks again.

Hi, congratulations on your move to les rotas, love it around there, it’s my running/snorkel route!

We have a place here under the Mongo but can only holiday here 2/3 times a year due to uk commitments and kids at school! Maybe one day!

Owning a place in Denia and holidaying here for many years I must say communication with the locals in their rightful language goes a long way, we try our best (which is also appreciated by locals) but always having limited time makes it difficult to learn as much as we would like to. I think it’ll definitely be beneficial if you’ll be looking to emerge yourself with the local community, both leisure and business.

We do have family and friends visiting our villa from time to time and are looking for someone to “be around” in case of any problems, I.e: lost keys, broken window, pipe leak etc: and sometimes just someone to pop round to see if everything is ok from time to time, nothing major.

As you mention property management, maybe this is something you would like to discuss in the near future?

Please let me know if your up for a meet..

Regards

Nick
