Warning
I noticed, that feeding lucerne (alfalfa) is very common. That is a result of marketing, hunting for profit, nothing else. My warning: Do not feed that, because it is very bad for the horses. Has much to much protein, 17 %! That much to much is bad for liver and kidneys, it can make laminitis and stomach ulcer. The best sign, that it is horrible for horses: My Hanoverian did not touch the fresh green plant of lucerne, growing on a field (hot summer, August, he did not have fresh green for 2 month!). When the plant is dry and the water out the horses can not "scan" is it good or not. - Selling lucerne is only good for producers, salespeople and the vet (has more clients). Fact behind: Getting lucerne from the field is during a year 4 times possible, good hay only 2 times. - Best horsefood: Hay and crushed oats, carrots. How much depends on age, breed, work.
