You will need to grant someone Power of Attorney. Then they will be able to open an account for you.

Remember you don’t need a Spanish bank account to buy a house in Spain. I use my Wise account. Never had a Spanish bank account.

How do you pay for IBI and other bills?

If  you have a  Bank account  in your home country  and it in Europe.  It  should  have  an  European  Iban and bic number

You  will not need a Spanish  Bank account

I  would  tell your Lawyer/Solicitors  that you will  transfer  price of property  in their Client  holding  account.  They  can arrange  Banker Draft on  day of  completion   for  a small  fee.  Less than Spanish  Bank  would charge

Lawyer  should be able  to set up Direct debt for Electricity  and Water  and other utilities  bills  using Your Bank  account.  We'll  that is idea  of  European  Iban and  bic numbers. Why  not ask at  your  own Bank  in your European  country   for  details

When you open your ‘Wise’ account you are given a Belgian IBAN number which will start with BE. I use this number to pay all my utilities and Suma bills.

Your Abogado is wrong.

Many of us on here pay all their household bills via direct debit through their Wise account, in fact only yesterday I attended my local Suma office to set up a direct debit to pay the road tax for a recently purchased car, as a non resident this ensures that the tax gets paid as I wouldn't be in Spain when the bills are issued in March.
