Hi, if you’re driving from the uk to Spain and spending one night in France, what do you have to do entering Spain, in respect of Covid, show you’re double vaccinated and/or negative test, if it’s the latter too, has anyone got any details on that?
thanks Sarah

Morning  Sarah we travelled in May ,we were double vaccinated we had to show negative  test at Dover ,then no problems after that ,we stayed 2 nights in France, I believe the test may not be compulsory now if double vaccinated  ,but best to look at France travel rules .However  on our return in August  there was a checkpoint at the border  at Le Perthus  we were asked to show our Antigen test results we had done in Barcelona and also we were refused.entry to a bar / restaurant even to sit outside in Vichy as we hadnt downloaded an App on French hospitality although there were seating at outside venues we could access ,just a suggestion, think better to download your vaccination  status to prove you have been vaccinated twice, wish you well

Sarah, we did the trip both ways in July, no checks were done at the France / Spain borders, but as John stated you’ll need to prove you have had both vaccinations in France if you want to enter a restaurant, downloading the French app is very easy, you then scan in the uk prove of vaccination, job done.

hope this helps

Hi, I did the trip slightly differently to you but maybe it will help.  I drove and took the ferry from Porstmouth to Santander, drove through Spain and returned over the Pyrenees into France and back by ferry from Caen to Portsmouth - last week.

At Portsmouth checked - My NHS app for vaccination status - double jabbed and the Spanish Declaration on the Spain Travel Health app.

On arrival at Santander - Temperature check prior to exit of ferry then Passport check only.

Tricky bit here - If I was coming back from Spain to England then needed to do the Lateral flow or PCR within 72hrs of return.  But as I was going to France, I needed to show a test to enter France within 24hrs (as I was coming from Spain)- but then needed to make sure the same test was within the English rules of 72hrs otherwise I needed another test in France.

Also downloaded the french app as noted in other posts.  Also downloaded a copy of the declaration France requires for entering the country.

Anyway - did the lateral flow, no checks at Spain/France border - came over the Pyrenees A136.

At Hotel in France - only passport check.  Did not eat out but did hear from others that they needed the french app and proof of vaccination.

At Caen for return to UK - checked Passenger locator form for the UK and my lateral flow from within 72hrs.  Note passenger locator form can only be filled in 48hrs before leaving for UK.

Ay Portsmouth - Passport check only.

Hope of some help.

We have just driven to and from Xeraco from the U.K.   Left London Aug 25 on an early morning (01.30) train.   Showed passport and hard copy of French declaration of health form at French passport booth.  Passports stamped.    Drove straight through to Spain with no hotel stops.   No interception at the French/Spanish border on the motorway.      Had the antigen test at IMED Gandia two days before departure at a cost of €40.  Simple fast and result texted and emailed within 20 mins.    Stopped at the Mercury hotel in Beaune for one night.  On check in they wanted to see our U.K. Covid pass which we had printed off before leaving the U.K.   We had downloaded the TousCovid 19 app before leaving the U.K. too and downloaded our U.K. Covid pass to the app but never used it.    There is a dedicated Covid document check area in the Eurotunnel terminal at Calais.    It took us 10 minutes to show proof of negative antigen test, passenger locator forms and passports.   Easy.    We had downloaded the PLFs on to my mobile as we had no access to a printer while away and the email from IMED was accepted.     Hope this helps anyone who wants to drive instead of fly.   I would just add that if you don’t have access to WiFi while away, downloading and completing the PLF in the 48 hours before departure can be tricky when travelling by road.    Our original Eurotunnel train time was 23.20 which meant we had to complete the forms near midnight 48 hours prior to boarding and we were on the road by then.   We completed them at the hotel in Beaune.   We also changed to an earlier Eurotunnel train and didn’t need to re-do our PLFs.

I forgot to add in my previous reply that we booked our day 2 tests from Boots online about 8 days before we left Xeraco.   Boots were ultra efficient and we received notification they would be delivered in 3 days to our home address - signatures were not needed but we were worried the packages wouldn’t fit our letterbox.   They posted them through without any issues.  We did the PCR test on Friday and sent them back in the pre paid envelope - now awaiting the result.

Hi I thought we just required a double vaccination certificate, we’re driving from st Malo, we need to complete a health form to get on ferry to st Malo, but not sure we have to do Spanish health forms or antigen Covid test/pcr tests if double vaccinated? The Spanish health form appears to be only if arriving in Spain on a ferry or a flight? More confused now than I was before.

You definitely don’t need to do the Spanish health form when driving to Spain.

No PCR test required either.    Just your Covid certificate although we weren’t asked for this on the way out of the U.K. as we didn’t stop in France.   Drove straight through.
