Hi all, as the price of hire cars is getting ridiculous lately I wanted to find out if there are any links here with advice about owning a local car.

I’d be looking for used car dealership around Denia/Alicante.

How much is the ITV, road tax, insurance - based on a mid range family car like a Ford Focus or fiesta for someone mid 50’s with no accidents history.

Also any competitive airport car parks (covered) and what prices they charge. Do they keep you battery charged ? How do you get to the parking area is it close to the airport itself etc.

Is there any other costs to consider ?

thanks

Annie

Hi Annie, We bought a car last July to avoid both the costs and hassles of hiring a car each time. What we found was that second hand cars arent available for very long so best to plan your searches for when you are in Spain so you can make a quick decision. There are a number of places around Denia but we ended up buying ours from Automoviles Cegarra in Alicante (who I would recommend). Insurance costs are broadly similar to UK (If you pm me I am happy to provide specifics). We use Engel Parking at Alicante who I would highly recommend. The car is waiting for you immediately outside departures and you drop off at the same place. Very simple to book pick ups and drop offs via Whatsapp. Its €250 per year which includes 12 x drop offs and collections. Over 12 trips has a small additional cost per trip. Im not sure on Tax cost as we are waiting for our first bill. Hope that helps. Lee

Vehicle tax is specific to each local Ajuntamiento, not a nationwide rate as in UK. For example, our vehicle tax on a Citroen Aircross, living in a rural area is 35 Eu per annum, the same for our second small 10 yo Hyundai.
