Hi

My husband and I, are planning to stop working in September and visit Denia, where my parents live and we own an apartment. We don’t want to become official residents of Spain, but we would like to stay for longer than 90 days in 180 days, we really wanted to travel around Europe for about 8 months or so then return back to the UK, for 4 months, then repeat the year after. Is there a visa that we’d need to apply for to allow us to do this, we’re planning on coming over October 20? Any advice much appreciated.

Hi many thanks for your comments, we live and work in Jersey, we were not allowed to vote in this Brexit vote back in 2016, yet have to live with the consequences. I thought there was such a thing as a non lucrative visa, where if you could prove that you could support yourself, had valid health insurance in Spain, no criminal record you could extend your stay? Have you heard of this? Kind regards

Hi

I am very likely using the wrong terminology, i do not mind being a resident in Spain on a temporary basis, but i do not want to stay for longer than 183 days, i just wish to stay to look after my parents for longer than 90 days. I apologise if this has already been addressed, but can i come out in October 2020 and apply for a TIE in Denia, as we will still be in the transition stage? Kind regards Sarah

We're still waiting for Spain to publish the requirements related to Brexit, but UK citizens shouldn't yet apply for a TIE. In any case, the present financial requirements to qualify for a TIE are horrendous.

At present, if you're a UK or EU national, then you have to apply for a residency certificate for authority to stay more than 90 days, and meet the proof of income requirement plus buying private health insurance.

Once Spain publish the requirements, it should be possible to transfer that residency certificate to a TIE.

Hi is there any information on how to apply for this residency that’s required after 90 days? Do you have any advice on the health insurance required, I’d it travel insurance with health or health insurance? Kind regards Sarah

Hi, this is a huge piece of work thank you. Could you direct me to something that would explain what the tax implications are? And a recommended health insurance provider? Reading between the lines, as far as proving that i’m financially ok, is it ok to show a bank balance on a statement, I think I would prefer that rather than showing them deeds to my house in Jersey? Kind regards Sarah

For the tax implications, read my guides to tax in:

Jim's guides - your complete guide to Spain

For health insurance, scroll down the page to the advert for Gran Alacant Insurances and talk to Alfonso, who has an excellent reputation for helping people.

Hi,

I’m new to the site, only registered last week but already read a number of very interesting & relevant articles.

In short, we are an early/mid 50s couple who are hoping to spend some time in Spain in our retirement/semi-retirement, and I feel that the Denia area would appeal.

I don’t think we’d be looking to relocate permanently but had this general idea of spending about 6m here and 6m there.

However, I can see from this and other threads that this wouldn’t now be possible based on the 90 out of 180 day rule which the likes of jimtayloer & RayD have mentioned and explained a number of times in this & other threads.

Long term I like the idea of buying a place but whether or not that would happen we’d look to rent initially, for the many reasons suggested.

So I’m wondering if, with this inability now to stay/rent for 6 continuous months, does this make it more difficult or unlikely to be able to rent a place for this reduced length to time, as I'm assuming that most long term rentals would normally be for 6 or 12m?

Is anyone aware of the general availability/options for renting for this shorter 3m period?

One other question, I've read a number of times about the income requirements for residency etc. increasing (from memory approx. from about 700 to 2400 Euro/month). Is this per person or couple?

Thanks

Paul

Hi, it would be £2400 for the first person then £500  per family member thereafter. This has messed our plans to move over. We dont earn that here in the UK.
