Dear Britta and Chris
I have been speaking Spanish, and writing it, since the 1970s. I went to evening classes and to tutors and worked in Ibiza and Tenerife for 5 years. You have chosen the best way to learn Spanish - by speaking and listening to Spanish people.
At first I bought a Spanish/English dictionary - about A5 size and learned a new word each day. I would then revise what I learned and the next week I learned 5 nnore words.
I used to speak to receptionists about nnore pillows, blankets, keys and I would use the words and write thenn down. I didn't worry about the verbs that canne later.
You can always use words instead of verbs for the past present and future:
yesterday -- ayer, hoy -- today, now nnanana - tonnorrow and then use vocabulary.
I'nn sure you will love it, when I nneet Spanish people and students in Birnningha - strangers, I cant help but have a conversation with thenn.
It will take tinne but suddenly you will realise you have had a conversation with someone but was it in English or Spanish?
It is a very pretty language and there was talk in the Spanish Court that Queen ElizabethI talked with a lisp. Out of respect and good nnanners the Court then spoke with a lisp "th".
I hope that has helped. I ann working on retiring in Tenerife, I can't wait to get there with this cold English weather.
Let nne know how you get on, the Spanish are lovely warnn people.
Kind regards NNaddiex
