Hello

We are at the very start of our adventure to buying and moving to Denia and its surrounding area.

We have never been to This area before but we come late April next year for 4 weeks to investigate and find an area we like. We have watched very available episode of "A Place in the Sun"!! and based on this The north Costa Blanca is where we are totally focussing our search.

We would totally value any feedback or recommendation of a legal company to use for our property purchase / residency status and other things legal based on your experience.

We feel as though we need to start a dialogue now with a lawyer/ solicitor on all things legal.

So if you had a good experience then please share with us who you used.

Thank you for your time

Chris & Bingo

Hi both,

Your very first thing to do if you are to move permanently to Spain will be to apply for a visa from the Spanish consulate while you are still living in the UK. Each of you will need to meet the income and healthcare requirements for the visa.

You can't just move to Spain and start a new life. There are many hoops to jump through first.

Here is a link to the various visas that you could apply for:

https://visaguide.world/europe/spain-visa/

When you apply for a visa of your choice you will need to submit a police report and various documents translated into Spanish.

Also look at the UK government website about living-in-spain.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

A word of caution if you intend to work in Spain it will be almost impossible to find any work to support a comfortable lifestyle even if you can get a job offer as most jobs are long hours and low paid. If you are retiring with a good amount of income and savings then it will be easier. You could start your own business (autonomo) but there are more hoops to jump through to achieve it.

Don’t believe all you see on the tv programs you only see the plus points, there are lots of things that people mention they want to do with reference to lifestyle or want to do to the property they are wanting to buy that will not be possible to achieve because of local rules and regulations.

As the previous poster has mentioned check what the requirements are for visas, health insurance and incomes before even thinking about solicitors in Spain.

I know this sounds negative but it is now a lot harder since Brexit but I wish you luck with your quest.

I would recommend that you rent before buying a property in Spain. It's very expensive to buy & subsequently sell if you find that you've made a mistake (Approx' 20% of purchase price). Once renting you will get a feel for the property prices and the area. Trust me, living here full time is totally different than holidaying here.

As non residents you can only stay for 90 days in any rolling 180 days but it may be possible to rent for a number of 3 months periods to try out different areas and seasons. We did this before we became residents.

Don't be too hasty in your decision to move to Spain permanently. Would you need to work? Do you qualify for a S1? (state pension age) Do you have children? Do you have a pension tax free lump sum? or house to sell? (Spanish tax can be punitive if you don't do any planning).

Good luck

Try White Baos of Denia.  Carlos Baos is very competent and speaks excellent English.

We have experience of living somewhere where holidaying and living are different. we moved to Isle of Wight 6 years ago and enjoy our cliff top position   but the Spanish weather beckons.

We will not need to work and we are of retirememnt age. In terms of visa we will be able to make use of 'family member of EU citizen' as my wife is German.

Thank you for your time and advice!
