I've kept my UK phone and bought a Small Spanish phone. Alot of places you deal with in Spain won't contact you on your UK phone. It depends on how you use your phone really. If you intend phoning the uk a lot i would use my UK phone as it's cheaper.

Summing up: l have a Spanish phone for Spanish business and English phone for Uk business. ...

...

For example: l can't get Barclays Mobile Banking app on my Spanish phone.

Hope that helps somewhat

Steve

Steve, I came across this old thread by accident. Have Barclays Bank been in touch with you about loss of UK banking? I hope not as I believe this was Barclay CARD. The reason I ask is I'm with Natwest and so far they have not contacted me with intention to withdraw.

Fingers crossed! Steve

Hi,

You keep your uk phone mate,it doesn’t cost anymore to phone in Spain now, than uk,so you can use your minutes the same as you do in uk,also receiving calls now cost nothing.

Dave

Hi,  I have a Virgin Mobile Sim in my UK Mobile.  At the moment I can use Spanish Roaming and all my calls and data are within my plan, However having read the "European Fair Use policy" on roaming.

""every rolling 4 month period, you must use more data, calls and texts in the UK than the EU or spend more time in the UK than away somewhere else.
So, if you’ve used your phone more in the UK than you have in the EU within the last 4 months, you can still use your allowance whilst travelling without incurring a surcharge.""

Unless I am reading this wrong having been in Spain since beginning of October Now (13/12)  I will soon start paying for my usage even though I have a monthly plan.

So unless other Mobile companies are different to Virgin then your above comment is wrong?

Another way is to get what’s app to run in parallel with your contract then you can use video calling at no cost

I use it world wide and if the country you are in blocks calls get a vpn . VPNs can but purchased on an annual or monthly basis . I have found Express VPN to be the best . If you also use it on your computer ,iPad or smart tv you can get uk tv anywhere you have wifi or any other countries you want to link to as long as you select the home base they are  linked to

Hope this assists you and anybody else who use the foram

I have a Uk virgin pay monthly sim for both myself and my husband and we have been here since mid June and no additional costs.

I know it states this in the terms but they don’t seem to apply it (yet)

I have been using my UK EE contract here for over 4 years. Admittedly it's a business contract but don't think that would stop them cancelling if they wanted to.

I own the phone and pay £17 monthly.

I use a cheap Spanish mobile for local use.

Hi,  Thanks for the info.  When you get Whatsapp running parallel to your WIFI,  I assume you mean use Whatsapp Voice calling, video calling etc over WIFI instead of calling with your contract minutes?  I already do this, but I also call my mother who is 95 years old, doesn't have a mobile phone and lives in Spain.  I often do this when out and about (in Mercadona, around town, in the car) using either telephone or whatsapp to call her on my mobile plan.  All in All it would mean adjusting my current habits to fit the costs.  However,  I am hoping that I won't get stung by the Fair Use Policy.  I just wonder if Brexit will have any impact on that though?  And No I did not shoot myself in the foot by voting to leave the EU.

I’ve kept my U.K. mobile as it has free roaming but to be honest I do most of my calls and facetime calls on WhatsApp which uses internet connection so costs nothing as long as your linked to WiFi .
I also have a Spanish mobile as many companies/shops won’t accept U.K. number there’s many good deals for sim only ,I use Lobster as it’s in English .
