The system is similar to the procedure for initially obtaining a TIE, but easier.
The details depend on whether it's a Withdrawal Agreement TIE, or a post-visa TIE, and it's a different tick box on the application form.
I know several people who have renewed their TIEs without involving a third party.
The most difficult part is obtaining an appointment.
Make sure you only arrange an appointment for after your TIE has expired.
Did both my own and wife's and helped a few others too. It's really not such a big deal!
As mentioned only hard part was getting the appointments.
FWIW I do not speak Spanish (or not in any way a Spanish person could be expected to understand!) but it's not required because so long as the very simple paperwork is in order there are no questions to be answered on the day.

We actually used a gestor some years ago, simply to ensure we could obtain the appointments. She charged us 20 eu each for sorting it all out which struck me as perfectly reasonable.
