Is it possible / permissible to drive through locked down communities in Spain off a ferry from Santander or Bilbao to our home in Valencia?

Has anybody managed this since the latest travel ban? Are the Authorities checking documentation at arrival port or on route anywhere?

Most discussions on this Forum appear to be flight based! That's OK if your airport is local of course!

Its a good question and I am sure some will have done it. Possible/Permissible being the question, possible probably yes, permissible definitely NO.

Currently you can only travel to your permanent place of residence so unless this is the case the answer to your question would be no from authorities.

A lot of Spanish families are unable to travel holiday homes with the restrictions.

Hi BriAnn40,

Will you be travelling from England or another part of the UK?  Is Spain your permanent home, or the UK?

You have to respect both UK and Spanish regulations, so difficult to give you a definitive answer without knowing your specific circumstances.

Kind regards,

Kim

For the Spanish part of your journey I would suggest that you have a look at the N332 Facebook page.   Today they have posted another update on what restrictions are in place.   Take note of the night time restrictions especially.

Thanks for your reply. Just "testing the waters". Looking like a no go then - until post lock down. Ferry now duly cancelled!

Hola Kimmy, thank you for replying.  No - we are UK residents but do have legal reasons and also genuine needs to check our holiday home.

I understand this might not be considered essential travel, but armed with qualifying paperwork, might this be justifiable, post lock down?

Hi BriAnn40,

I think it will depend on what the Spanish rules are after the UK has lifted its lockdown.  This article explains the latest situation - note particularly the 9th paragraph starting, "It is important for those intending to travel......"

https://murciatoday.com/first-stage-of-state-of-alarm-in-spain-ends-today-regions-now-impose-their-own-restrictions_1526464-a.html

I think there are too many variables to be able to advise what to do - unless you can cancel your plans at short notice without penalty!

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you but I'm not on Facebook. Nonetheless I'm well aware of the border restrictions hence my first question regarding driving down!

Strangely Brittany Ferries are still taking bookings with mid pm arrivals. I.E. not possible to get home until well past the curfew time!

A thought provoking topic for many I'm sure!

And this just released on El Pais - Spain will require negative PCR tests for travellers from high-risk countries, commencing 23 November:

Hi Kim,

it makes sense to do the checks but it will limit the number of travellers from the UK, a PCR test here costs around £150 at the moment, for results within 48 hours. Not really feasible for many as it stands now.

Aitch.
