The Variations of Catteries.

Since we opened The Cats Whiskers in August 2023 we have received numerous and varied questions regards cat boarding from new as well as existing cat owners so we thought it might be helpful to throw some light on how best to go about making inquiries.

To begin with please bear in mind that catteries, their facilities and the service they provide will vary tremendously and the cost of boarding will reflect what is provided. We always advise how important it is for owners to take the time to go and view different catteries as this will help provide some insight as to which cattery to consider.

During each cattery viewing you will be able to evaluate the ambience, quality of accommodation, the level of hygiene and which specific food is included. You may also inquire as to what heating is provided 24/7 for the cold winter days as well as the nights and what protection does your cat receive from the very hot summer days. Your viewed cattery may also refer to other areas specific to the service they provide.

At the viewings of the utmost importance is that you ensure the cattery is legal by having acquired  Zoological Registration because that is the law and that their Zoological Registration is clearly displayed which is a requirement of registration. If the Zoological Registration is not displayed then you must draw your own conclusions.

Since we opened in August 2023 there have been several cattery closures following spot checks for Zoological Registration by the police and Guardia Civil and these closures are with immediate effect which regrettably has left owners very distraught and out of pocket. Spot checks are carried out unannounced so could be prior or during your breaks away so please be aware.

The cost of boarding will be part reflected in the cost of producing and maintaining the level of cattery you have viewed together with the service they provide. Catteries along with everyone else face ever increasing annual costs which understandably will require periodical reviews of fees being charged.

Regards our own cattery The Cats Whiskers in Dolores, this is our unique designed cattery that is rather special in every respect as is our service and is the end result of over 18 years experience in the UK.
