Hi Guys

I’d love some advice please I love a few properties I have seen online in Dream Hills. I am wondering is this a good area to live full time? are there a lot of ex pats? What’s the crime rate like, any danger of flooding etc . I’m planning on a permanent move, living alone so am a bit wary and not believing everything the estate agent is telling me . I plan to visit very soon but would really appreciate some help I can’t afford costly mistakes . It’s a very big move for me but I’m excited to make the new start

Hi Ann

A lot will depend on whether you have a car. Dream Hills is a very hilly area, and does not have much in the way of public transport - and it's no fun walking everywhere in full sun, especially if you're carrying shopping bags! Having said that, your nearest supermarket would be Aldi, which is quite close and an easy walk.

There are plenty of English speaking residents, so it doesn't go dead in the bars in winter, although it is much quieter of course. The liveliest bars in the area are in the commercial centre known as Via Park 3 - which is at the top of a steep hill.

Crime and floods are nothing to worry about.

Cheers

Oh wow thank you .. definitely not a contender if public transport is scarce plus the hills . Probably the name should have alerted me . Do you have any recommendations . I would like to have easy access to sea, shops restaurants etc. I need to learn Spanish so a expat ( British/Irish) would be preferred. I may get a car in time when I settle in . One thing at a time 😊

Hi

Please don't rule anything in or out purely on the basis of what I say...you really need to have a look around.

I suggest you consider Punta Prima/Playa Flamenca/La Zenia/Cabo Roig - which all straddle the n332 dual carriageway along the coast. From Punta Prima there is an excellent bus service into Torrevieja. These places also have lots of amenities Inc supermarkets. If you are Irish, Cabo Roig might suit you - it has a large Irish community.

Re "easy access to the sea" - if you're on the inland side of the n332 you need to be aware that there are only a few places where it's safe to cross - if you pick the wrong house it might be a bit of a walk! If you're on the beach side, then you will have to cross to get to a supermarket.

All of these areas are lovely to live in btw - I'm just telling you things to be aware of! Also, there are endless different nationalities here, but almost everybody speaks at least some English.

Cheers

Thank you so much .. I will certainly take your advice on board . I intend to rent an apartment the end of the summer and pop over several times to see what it’s like during winter . I would like a reasonable amount of English speaking but I don’t want to live in strictly Irish community . Thank again I really appreciate the advice and will definitely check out those areas .

Hi Ann,

I notice that your location is showing as Torrevieja, but the area of Dream Hills that you're looking at comes under Orihuela Costa.  Estate agents will be happy to show you properties and let you believe they come under Torrevieja, rather than Orihuela Costa, because of residents' complaints about the lack of investment made by Orihuela City council to properties on the costa.  This may be less of a problem to people buying holiday homes, but it's something you should take into consideration if you're planning to move here full-time.  Have a good look around when you visit.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you ! I don’t know why my location comes up as that because I’m in west Cork Ireland . I will certainly take note of what you say ,
