Hi, I take piriton antihistamine which has the same ingredients in as nytol. Piriton tablets have always claimed "can make you drowsy" but didnt realise it was same ingredient. If you dont have a box to take and farmacy dont recognise "nytol" ask for spanish equivalent to "piriton antihistamine" which they would be often asked for for prickly heat problems.

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Bonnie,

I have never seen nytol here. I use Dormidina which are just as effective . You can buy them in any pharmacy . They have different strengths so 25 mg is probably the most commonly used

Hi Ray

You are correct, sorry for confusion, the piriton does still have a soporific effect(and no known side effects, so not harmful other than drowsyness) and thought it might be easier to get, and actually I also take benadryl with the Diphenhydramine hydrochloride in though mine was from US, not sure if the european version has same chemical though. For anyone who suffers with prickly heat badly (as I do) I discovered a product in US from Walgreen which I think is only available from Amazon, of Benadryl Gel with the DH chemical that gives instant relief to prickly heat, mosquito bites, horsefly and any other plant sourses (ie. Nettles and poison oak). Its amazing, I couldnt be in Spain without it. Just my luck even with P20(factor 50) I sometimes suffer.

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Ray again

Just read the link with the differences between the antihistamines (as they are both prescribed for allergic reactions) and was surprised piriton achieved a better score rating in reviews and it was added that it did help the reviewer achieve sleep quicker.

I am now going to look up the chemical ingredients for dormadina as suggested as Benadryl tablets with the DH compound are quite expensive(maybe cheaper in Spain)

Regards

Pauline.
