Hi all,

Many thanks for all the advice so far . We now have a house on Alkabir and have visited once so far over Easter . The electricity kept tripping out if we used more than one thing at a time , so we had the tariff upgraded. We are with Iberdrola. It now seems quite expensive considering we were only there for 2 weeks. I have seen options on the Iberdrola web site to choose an 8 hour tariff.  Anyone tried this ? We tend to be out all day so we use electricity in the evening and leave the boiler on overnight to get enough hot water for morning showers.

Thanks

Sam

Hi Sam

We leave the boiler on all the time and find the only thing that trips the electric is the kettle when the washing mashine ,tv and hairdryer are all on together . we have day /night plan and our bill is 40 to 50 euros a month .when my son and daughter with partners were here in August and used air con sparingly the bill barely changed.

Hi Sam

As I'm sure you're aware, the biggest cost driver for a holiday home is the standing charge, which is the same on all the plans.

In your situation the 8 hour plan may well work out best, but you'd have to do some number crunching. Compare the 8 hour and night plans prices - scroll down and click on View Prices:

https://www.iberdrola.es/en/electricity/choose-8-hours-plan

https://www.iberdrola.es/en/electricity/night-plan

I assume you've got a smart meter, as this is required for the 8 hour plan.

An advantage of both plans is that you aren't committed to a period of time and can switch to another plan any time you want to.

Hi Sam  Couple if things we did that made a big difference leave the boiler on all the while.secondlly adjust the boiler temperature so the water is hot but not scalding as our was you could not put you hand under the tap or turn shower on standing under it dangerous if you have kids. Plus cannot understand having to turn cold tap on because hot tap is to hot .made a big difference to my bills.give it a try I did have to try several times adjusting boiler (new one) to get it correct 1mm either direction is a few degrees.
