Just explore online banking,n26 ,Wise etc,no charges  ,a card and DD easy.( N26 offer a Spanish account number to cater for " Orange" and other dinosaurs that only accept a Spanish account number) I use Wise and N26 ( German account number/EU )absolutely no problems for all ,Telefonica, movi star iberdrola etc, except Orange!

When I need more than 200 euros in a month I am charged 1% by wise on top of the atm charge.

Do n26 have free withdrawals as I may use this as well?

Thank you

Dave

They have suddenly charged me as well.  When I queried it the advisor said as my pension is not paid directly into the account by pension service I will be charged.  I have used Wise to transfer my pension for several years now every month and always on the same date.  I have my mortgage with CaixaBankNow so can’t close the account.  Would love to tell them to stick their account.

Although obliged by EU law still some Spanish companies refuse to accept DD's and SO's from non Spanish, but still EU banks.

I imagine their attitude toward non EU UK banks would be HARSHER so be careful what you wish for.

A Wise AC might be your best bet.

I use Wise. Best move I made in this respect.

The santander one account is 20 euros per month but your not charged this  if you’ve paid in 600 euros or made 3 debits that month.

I too bank with Sabadell and have done for 9 years and have never received bank charges. I'm aware that BBVA offer an account free of bank charges which can be opened on line and there's no commitment to have a minimum monthly pay in, looks an interesting option.  BBVA also arrange all the necessary transfers of direct debits etc for free. N26 will give you free banking and a Spanish account number ,for those companies ,such as Orange ,who will only accept a Spanish account for DD,couldn't be easier ,all online,Wise,is another one ,has a EU account number ,it also gives you a British Sterling account.Today I transferred some £s from Halifax to Wise Sterling account, and then from there to the € account,no transfer fees and no bank charges ,all online ,easy and in seconds.

So, are you saying that if I open a Wise account in Euros in the UK and advise all the relevant Spanish authorities to draw their charges by DD or standing orders on that account they will do so?  Thanks Geoff

Yes, Wise is a good solution and they will have to accept it, your € account IBAN will likely be in Belgium so EU account and there is no reason any company can refuse it.

We are resident but still use Wise for some transactions and DDs  both in £ and  €, never had any turned down.

Stay clear of Spanish banks offers to waive charges if you take out their insurances, they are a rip off to say the least.
