We brought over our skybox hd which we use as a receiver for satellite tv.  We bought a freesat receiver and also now have that in order to be able to record programmes (not yet set up).  We've noticed that there are different/more channels on the Sky hd box receiver than freesat, and were wondering whether it is techically possible to connect both receivers to the satellite dish?  That way we could have the best of both worlds...record stuff on the freesat box and watch channels on the skybox which aren't on the freesat box.. Does anyone know if this is feasible?  Thanks!

Should be able to run a shotgun cable into a twin LNB to make that happen.

If you use a quad LNB and 4 cables you'll be able to make full use of both boxes for viewing and simultaneous recording.

I've just quit my Sky subscription and now use 2 Freesat receiver/recorders and watch the channels I lost from Sky via IPTV where catchup substitutes for recording.

More choice than I know what to do with lol

As long as each receiver has its own cable feed from the dish they will work fine.

(A Humax Freesat +HD will quite happily allow you to record two and watch a third of BBC1,2,itv, c4 and Five using just one cable, and the correct postcode for regional variations, but for a fuller recording option, two cable feeds are needed)

To record on a Sky box you need a subscription, but it will be fine for just watching the few channels (C4HD for example), that are not on Freesat - it only needs one cable, connected to input 1, and then make sure "single feed mode" is enable to make sure it always uses input 1.

(although the channels like C4HD not on Freesat can be added to your box as a "non freesat channel"... but this will mean any recordings to be made in Freesat will not work!)

You can manually add channels to a Freesat box that are not part of the Freesat package

Thanks we have the humex Hd one but noticed that there were other channels on the skybox/receiver which we no longer get on Freesat (Euronews, Alibi channels) for example..would be nice to be able to watch stuff on one box and record on other.  thanks for the help!

Alibi is a Sky pay channel, and always has been...so it will not be on Freesat, and only on a Sky box with a subscription.

Like i said in my earlier reply, you can add the missing "free to air" channels (like C4HD) to your Freesat box, by adding them into "non freesat mode"... but this does mess with any recordings to be done in Freesat mode...

Thanks - I think I must be getting mixed up with the channel..perhaps it was Drama ... it's definitely not a sky paying one as we finally got rid of the subscription!  I think i'll have a look when I get there next week..the whole point of buying the Humex was to be able to record so we definitely don't want to mess up the freesat box! thanks!
