hi all. I need to get a Spanish phone so the hospital can contact me to arrange an appointment. Any advice would be helpful. I have English phone and not sure how it works if friends in England want to contact me and I get a Spanish phone.

British wired phone sets will not work when connected to a Spanish landline.

I'm assuming you're talking about mobile phones. If your mobile has a double card slot, you can keep your UK service SIM card in there as normal, and subscribe to a Spanish service who would give you their SIM card to put in slot two, along with a Spanish number. You phone would then receive calls on both numbers.
I use Lobster in Spain, they are excellent.

As Herefordjack says, but if you don’t want to pay for both two contracts, then ditch the U.K. number and you and your friends can contact each other with FaceTime messenger, WhatsApp etc etc.
Most people use internet apps to keep in touch nowadays, especially when they have friends and relatives spread across the globe.
