Thank you, I’m sorry I tried to search to see if someone else had already asked but couldn’t find anything!

It is the law in Spain, ignor it if you like but don't complain if you get a hefty fine!

Hi briret,

Do you have a date for the information from the Valencian Tourist Office please?  It may not be up to date, as it doesn't appear to match the announcement that Pedro Sanchez reimposed the wearing of face masks in outdoors settings with effect from 24 December 2021, which I posted about last week:

"Under the new legislation, you must wear a face mask outdoors even if social distancing of 1.5 metres between people can be maintained - it's mandatory “in any outdoor space for public use or that is open to the public,” so on the street, in parks and, as a general rule, in any open space.  There are two exceptions: face masks are not required outdoors “during individual sports” (for example, going for a jog or a cycle on your own), or “during activities that are not sporting in nature, but are carried out in natural spaces”, such as at the beach or hiking in the forest - but these exceptions still require that the 1.5 metre social distancing rule be maintained.  The face mask can also be removed outdoors in Spain by those travelling by boat; however, the new rules make masks mandatory below deck, even if social distancing can be maintained.

Face masks are not mandatory inside private residences, care homes, centres for people with disabilities, or similar homes, provided that the vaccination rate is 80 percent or higher with the full schedule and booster doses.  However, visitors and workers at these centers are still required to wear face masks.

Of course, you must still wear a face mask in indoor spaces, such as shops and other indoor public spaces, as well as public transport, and if you’re in a car with people from other households, all passengers are expected to wear a mask.

Children under six years old and those who are not capable of removing a face mask for themselves are exempt from wearing them.

According to Spanish law, failure to wear a face mask in public spaces, including outside on the street, will be considered a minor offence and is punishable with a fine of up to €100.

But I think the simplest explanation is how the Minister for Health, Carolina Darias, described it: “Every time we go out, we have to leave with our mask on."

Kind regards,

Kim

Yes they were breaking the law in Spain. With Omicron on the rise they introduced laws so that we had to wear face masks outside again.  That post with Valencia on seems out of date. This photo is from El Pais on 23rd December. I have to say that when I walk about in Campello I hardly see anyone without masks.

And the requirement to wear masks outdoors has now been extended to the end of January.

Kind regards,

Kim
