You cannot drive a car with an expired ITV anywhere in Spain.

The only way to legitimise it would be to trailer it here then attempt to sort out the paperwork, you won't of course be able to drive the car until you get everything in order which could take months if you manage to do it at all.

Frankly you've bought a lemon which is going to bring you nothing but expense an grief.

My advice is to offload it ASAP.

As Movingon said, you cannot drive the car on Spanish soil without an ITV. Also, if you hold a UK driving licence you cannot legally drive a Spanish registered car on UK soil. It won't be insured in either country.

Have you considered registering the car on British plates with a British MOT then exporting it to Spain?

"if you hold a UK driving licence you cannot legally drive a Spanish registered car on UK soil"

Sorry but that's not so.

The question hinges on residency so regardless of which licence you happen to hold if you are UK resident that's when you cannot drive a foreign registered car.

Registering in UK is only an option if you are UK resident and have a bona fide UK address, even then I wonder if once back in Spain the VIN number might flag it up as  not properly transferred and not 'off the books' so to speak.

A further wrinkle is whether or not the previous owner notified it's import to UK through the HMRC NOVA scheme which has to be done within 14 days of the event, if his intent was to sell it then I'd have to guess not and that will be another problem for you to overcome - and all the time you STILL won't be able to drive the damn thing!

I reiterate my earlier advice to get shot of it.

Sorry Movingon, you are right, it is linked to residency and not the licence. Also am I right in thinking that any unpaid road tax will be payable by the new owner judging by the post recently where the tax hadn't been paid for a number of years?

Save yourself time and worry by contacting, [email protected] These guys have re registered hundreds, if not more cars from UK to Spain and Spain to UK. They are experts, professional, friendly, legal and do what they say they will do.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for your reply. I think you may have pointed me in the correct direction relating to 35mm photos and how to digitise them for reproduction. for which I thank you.

Pete, your clearly a learned guy in many respects. All I was trying to do was point the poster in the correct direction.

I just felt that too many cooks were spoiling the broth..... with their take on what the poster should/ought to do. If anyone knows what to do then surely the guys at Spanish number plates would, by far, be able to point them in the right direction, regardless of where the car was registered/bought.

Just trying to help someone without giving my opinion, when there is a far more informed people who could/couldnot give a factual answer.

Please do not take offence, like you and the other regular contributors, I'm only trying to hep.
