Hi there, I'm in the process of 'importing' my car from France with the aide of a gestor.  He's offered to get the carplates done but not actually put on the car, I'd prefer to get the plates done and put on the car by a garage etc.. Does anyone know where this can be done near El Campello? And more importantly how long it takes?? Are appointments needed? Takes about 5 minutes in Paris..but know some things are a bit slower here! thanks for your help!

Hi, had Uk plates to Spanish a month ago.  You can order them on line with Fur vent. They are based in the Carrefour car park.  Obviously you need to know your new number plate to order.  You can only order white plates for a car (I got confused first and ordered blue, they are for larger vehicles):  Cost on line 19,95 E each plate.  Ready next day and put on within half hour.  Best of luck

Great thanks, I'd already dropped into Feu Vert and they assured me that they do them. The gestor mentioned the acryclic ones being better and they said they had them and they'll install them. Definitely easier than getting them from the gestor and then running around trying to find someone to put them on!

'Hopefully' should get the new reg this week...though not so sure with all the bank holidays. As soon as I get the reg I'll contact the insurance company and then put through the order.. I do have a little sticker and paperwork I got from the ITV to cover me during this 'transition' time!

thanks for your help.. and good luck with the driving  - will be interesting to see if driving styles change when I have Spanish plates... !

I doubt your driving style will alter, but your parking might. The aim is to park on a corner, with a yellow line and dropped kerb, and with at least half the car on a pedestrian crossing.

I've noticed that a lot of Spanish also drive like the French: when turning a corner to the right - you veer 1-2 metres to the left.. Sounds like Paris has trained me well then!! The Parisians also like to park on pedestrian crossings and corners.. really great visibility for anyone trying to cross the road!!!

Hi again, Not sure who you are insuring your car with but I went with abbeygate, they were so cheaper than others and actually cover more! Curtsey car, accident breakdown everything, and they speak English and can give you the insurance details in Spanish and English.   Anything I can help with let me know... regards

Thanks - just had a look and look like they cost 24.95 each with mounting them included.  Did you have to make an appointment with the garage on line too?  As when I look that's what it's saying?  thanks for clarifying this...I'm hoping to get this finally sorted out this week...assuming the local administration isn't on holidays!

Hi, as mentioned I ordered the blue ones by mistake and paid 24.95 for each.  I ordered them on line, mounting was included in the price.  The Next day I went to,the counter with my receipt and they said it would be ready in half hour.  Went into carrefour.  When I returned to my car the plates were white and when I asked about the blue ones they told me they were for larger vans, caravans etc. So they returned to me 10 Euro’s, as the white ones are only 19,95 each including mounting.  You can usually pick your plates up within 2 hours.  It is open there all day. Go inside hand over your printed receipt from your purchase, and they will do the rest.  Take your car details and papers with you, plus your residency or NIE, they will ask to see that!  All the best

Sorry,  No appointment was required. If they are busy they may ask you to return another time though.
