Hi All. Just a quick question

I've seen and killed about 6 cockroaches in the villa over the last couple of weeks. Not sure how they're getting in. Is this something I should be worried about.

Has anyone else noticed an increase? Is it the unusually hot weather?

What can I do to try to stop them ?

Cheers all

Hi, just an aside. Similarly when I venture into our town I very seldom see a cockroach. But as Kim says, when the ayuntamiento applied their "stuff", they mark the Fluorescent man holes. They run down the street! "song"...

the cockroach, the cockroach  can no longer walk......etc

Cheers kimmy11. I've just been trying the sprays. Hence the last ones I've seen have been dead. The first ones were really quick little buggers. The only other thing I can think of is, we have ducted air con.. could they be coming in through there. If so how do they get in the ducting ?

There does seem to be an increase in numbers this year and our town hall is spraying specifically for them which they haven't in years past. I find those plastic cockroach baits are the most effective, just place them in a few hard to get to spots and vacuum up the dead or dying when you see them.

Many people have commented that there has been a noticeable increase in cockroach numbers this year, in our are ( La Zenia ) the Council have been spraying and the sprays from the supermarkets are effective. If the problem persists you could contact Pests R Us for advice.

And don't stamp on them with your foot as it will only spread their eggs via the sole of your shoe.

They don’t just walk, they also fly!    Like many insects they can get into very, very small holes.   Also, they are not ‘picky ‘ and don’t just like dirty places.

Noooo. Urban myth, I'm afraid. Go ahead and stomp.

Best time to catch them was in May when you see the buggers shagging. Spray them and you got 2 for the price of one AND no babies from their night of nuptials! They produce about 50 sprogs per bonk!

I amuse myself every year as the local gunslinger, armed with cocky spray. Last year I got about 350.

Treat it like a Battle of Britain score - kills and probables.  It's great fun!

Most were in my bloody front garden (they like my umbrella bush) but some were "away matches" (going to/returning from pub) or on neighbours walls. One or two were in the house! My belief is they get in through the oven extractor so, before turning in, I turn on the extractor, spray a bit of cocky killer up it and turn the fan off.

The Mercadona sprays are brill! Black tin or brown, those cockies are history.

Been working overseas a lot this year so my "kills" are well down this year but I intend to make up for it when I'm back!

.....kin' 'ell......the things you do when you're single............................. :)
