We are driving from Campello to the euro tunnel at Calais for the first time. What route is best for this, please ? We would prefer a tunnel to cross the Pyrenees and my husband has a friend in Saint Yrieix la Perche that he would like to visit which seems possible. Thanks

The first time I drove down to the area was over a Christmas/New Year holiday so to avoid any potential problems with the Pyrenees I took the route to Narbonne and then the coast (ish) route. Google maps says it is only takes 15 minutes longer than their preferred Pyrenees crossing.

The difficult bit coming from Calais is dealing with the route past Charles de Gaulle (A3) and then La Periphique (E15) around Paris: some days you can fly through, other days expect an hour or more delay - just like our M25. I would recommend a SatNav with traffic avoiding options: it gave us an opportunity for a bit of drive-by site-seeing rather than just staring at motorway embankments. Didn't save any time though!

Hi

We did the UK to Busot, a great trip. We travelled with a dog so stopped a little more often.

But our trip was Folkstone on the tunnel, on to Rouen, Le Mans then to Tours where we stayed overnight. Next day was from Tours to Poitiers, passing Bordeaux and with another stop overnight in Guéthary. Next day Guéthary to Pamplona via Zaragosa, Teruel, passing Valencia then on to Busot, long day.

You could skip a night and crack on with the journey if necessary. With a slight detour, you would be passing close Saint Yrieix la Perche

Hope this helps

Regards

John

Jaca is a good place for a night stop and only a few km to the tunnel under the mountains
