Where to live on the Costa Blanca is my dilemma.  I am ready to retire from work and have holidayed a lot in the area.  There are three areas that could suit me given that I don't want to drive in Spain: El Campello, San Juan and Torrevieja.  I would hope to mix with expats but know a little Spanish.

Any helpful advice?

With a little more inf (or research) If you wish to mix with immigrants (UK style) your on the right search. Its open-end, for what you are searching for. Not much help, but think & enjoy what you are looking for. With luck. Villas

I don’t know the other two areas but Torreviega has good public transport if you don’t want to drive.  As well as local buses there are longer distance coaches from its central bus station , including to Alicante airport for just €7.

We live in Busot which is 10 minutes from El Campello. El Campello is a wonderful vibrant seaside town with a great tram service taking you into Alicante for €1.45. There are all nationalitys here. Plenty of shops, but predominantly Spanish. Great restaurants and wonderful beaches. We have a car so travel to many places locally, but use the tram often. If we can offer you any help, please do not hesitate.

I would strongly advise you to rent first for perhaps one or two months . I would suggest Pilar de Horadada, it has all anyone could want. It is not too far from Torreveja for the odd trip out but I personally would not live there.  Good luck. Len.

We have lived just outside the village of Coveta Fuma in Cala Piteris for 2 years now. Fabulous Mediterranean - Alicante Bay views from our villa just 400 metres from the tram station. Benidorm one way, Alicante the other and El Campello just a few minutes away, which has a wonderfully vibrant promenade and hosts of bars and restaurants.  Originally we looked inland but just fell in love with the coast. You will love it too.

Hi John I have just joined the forum and unfortunately still living in the UK.  However I have only just discovered Busot and am looking there currently and also Elche area slightly further afield but more properties within my price range.  I love the look of El Campello and also Santa Polo.

I am a non driver but will be using a scooter to get from A to B and really so far this area has excited me most.  You see I want a quiet spot to live but accessible to convenience and life if I need it.  So Busot and Elche seem great spots. It is a shame that Busot currently only seems to have 1 bus a day to El Campello but even to cycle there doesnt seem to take that long.  I could even walk it.   Even travelling from Elche to El Campello is less than an hour by road and after living in the UK that is nothing to us.  However the roads there seem a much more attractive route than travelling in the UK :)

I have researched Busot itself quite a bit and looked at a couple of properties about half hour walk to town which is what I want rather than on a complex.  What is it like living in Busot from your point of view.  I would be grateful for some insight.  Thanks :)

We have been here for just over 18 months.

It is such a wonderful town with always something going on. There is a good mix of nationalitys, but predominantly Spanish. We have a great Major who works hard and gets things sorted. There is a medical centre, Farmacia, and a handful of restaurants. El Campello is about 10 minutes away, it has a lovely beach, and great restaurants, there you can ride the tram to get Alicante or the other way is Benidorm. We shop in San Juan, also 10 minutes from Busot, with lots of hypermarkets and stores. Alicante is 20 minutes away, with everything you could want, Cinemas etc, and a great city to eat. We travelled from Denia to San Miguel Dr Salinas looking to for a home, and Busot to us is perfect.

Elche is s lovely place, but here in Busot we are only 10 minutes from the sea, wonderful in the winter for walks.

If I can help you anymore please do not hesitate to ask , or if your out this way my wife and I would be

 happy to show around Busot.

Best wishes

John Archer

John

Due to practical restraints I will not be able to do anything yet and it is frustrating as would like to be there now.  However the researching and planning is fun too.

I am planning to visit the two areas I mentioned, hopefully at the beginning of next year.  Perhaps the end of this year if I can manage so closer to the time I would love when I get to Busot to touch base.  Re Elche yes I have done my research and am looking at the outskirts.  The only reason I have looked at as second choice is I get more for my money in that area.   However Busot is first choice, mainly due to close proximity to El Campello. I am looking for a little bit of country but with a bit of life within easy access :)  It does look the right size for what I am looking for as I dont want to actually live in a really busy place. I have seen your mayor as I have researched as much as I could there and saw a nice video where he was being interviewed and he mentioned how he is trying to improve things.  I have started looking at properties with a little land about half hour walk or 10 minute cycle to Busot centre but my budget is limited and they are few and far between compared to Elche region.  So we shall see.  I may have to make more compromises for the location :)

I am so glad I found this forum.  It sort of makes me feel like I am almost there already as it is a big step for me as I am alone and older woman.  Nice to know that Busot is a friendly place as it will make my transition much nicer :)

PS Yes the idea of walking along the coast in the winter really appeals to me too :)
