Hiya Andy,

In a small minority of cases with older  light fitting containing certain specifications of Electronic circuitry there could be a problem ,but in the vast majority of cases if you have UK manufactured light fittings they will function perfectly ok throughout Europe, in fact lots of light fittings sold in The UK nowadays are actually manufactured in Spain and other EU countries .

Although Europe and The UK have slightly differing Voltages within their Networks Recent European Stadardization of declared Power Supply Voltages at an average 230Volt has meant most Electrical Equipment manufactured in Europe is suitable for use anywhere within Europe.

Hope that helps.

English light fitting will work in Spain, but you won't be able to buy the bayonet bulbs.

Fittings in Spain are usually E14 or E27 and all the tiendas sell lamps to fit them.

As stated in the first detailed reply to this post, by personal experience, and for the reasons given, I can state, the vast majority of and  " Most " but not " All "  U.K manufactured light fitting will be suitable for installation in Spain.

The OP didn't say "UK manufactured", he said "English light fittings". I merely pointed out that they are usually bayonet type and you can't get the bulbs here in Spain. So, yes, they will work in Spain, but are not really suitable unless you have a large supply of bayonet bulbs to go with them.

I must say, from personal experience, we junked a couple of UK table lights because we couldn't get the bayonet bulbs. It's something to consider, that's all.

Ray D . The O.P merely asked if the light fittings would ' work," which I think my reply adequately and accurately answered .

My commiserations to you for getting it wrong with your table light lamps.

Reading the daily updates I notice you have a habit of trashing other people's replies to posts requesting advice.

Why not concentrate on giving your own opinion and leave it at that? Think you need to chill out a little.

Ray,

I believe you can get adaptors to convert bayonet to screw and vis versa, ebay from China, but would save people throwing out light fittings or as in your case lamps which may have had loads of life left in them.

Regards

Pauline.

Thanks Pauline, I did look at some adaptors online but they added to the length of the bulb and pushed it above the top of the lamp. I did consider changing the fittings but it was too messy, so easier to junk them. They weren't of sentimental value, so bought Spanish replacements - which were probably made in China anyway ;-)
