We inherited 2 metal shutters (electrically controlled) for the veranda doors from the previous owner...two of the rare things that actually work... However they do make a lot of noise (which no doubt I neighbours don't appreciate...even if they bother us with their howling dogs.) As the previous owner wasn't particularly houseproud, I'm wondering how to clean them and also if there's a way of making them less noisy?  As I'll be heading back this weekend I don't want to create more work but would like to find a way to clean them.. Needless to say there's probably 20 years of dust/sand which the previous owner never bothered to clean!! Any advice gratefully accepted! thanks

Great thanks Pete, sounds like a project for hubby in December!! I was half tempted to use those disponible wipes, but then they aren't very environmentally friendly...and probably would use tons.. I think the noise comes from when the shutters are 'rolling' down, but I'm guessing that as the previous owner didn't maintain anything this may be why.. I'll have to check out silicone based furniture polish on my next trip to Aki.. should have bought shares in that shop!!

Based on my past experiences, it's probably best that I don't try anything 'new' a few days before leaving as that's when we end up having lots of problems..leaks, floods etc!!  thanks I've become very fond of WD40 since we bought the property here.. use it every time to make sure the door locks are oiled properly!!  thanks for your help!
