I’m struggling to get the required certification from DVLA to the Elche traffic office. DVLA will mail or fax the document but the Spanish traffic office does not except faxes but mail and email! They won’t accept the DVLA system of supplying a code online to access the information? Anyone had any luck on this?

Have you tried the dvla website to download and print the documentation required yourself, with or without using the online code. When exchanging my licence last year I downloaded and printed my dvla records myself before handing over my UK licence, but my dvla records were not asked for at any time, just my UK licence, TIE, Passport and medical certificate, I then received a temporary driving permit valid for 3 months, but I received my new Spanish driving licence within 6 weeks.

Hi thanks for your reply. Using the website was my first thought but they would not accept it due it not being sent directly from DVLA I think they may have tightened up rules since the transition period ended?

Has anyone heard update on situation with regard residents exchanging their U.K. license for a Spainish license. I tried to exchange mine but could never get an appointment at the Elche traffico office before the six month window after gaining residency. I understand U.K. government were in discussions with spain to allow them with decision end of July and I've not heard anything. I'm seriously considering giving up residency and tax residency and switch to 90/180. And then spend other 90 days in U.K. or Far East which is opening back up again.

The UK and Spanish governments are still having discussions about driving licence exchange. No conclusion yet.
You are the only person who can make the decision about staying as resident.

Keep an eye on the Brits in Spain Facebook page as they do give regular updates regarding this, the last one being on the 12th August.
