I am a mature, private tutor of English hoping to relocate to the Costa del Sol later this year to offer private lessons in English to Spanish nationals. I am mindful that many of the costa towns are "little Britain", thus cutting down the chances of finding Spanish clients. However, I would welcome some Brits around with whom to share a beer in the evening! I would prefer to live by the sea with a good number of Spanish families/speakers in the vicinity. Any recommendations please? Many thanks in anticipation.

Do you mean Costa Blanca or Costa del Sol?

Very many thanks for your helpful response, Kim.

I am of UK retirement age (just) and I possess dual nationality, possessing both Irish and UK passports, as I'm a citizen of both. Not sure if the EU passport (the Irish one) will offer any additional benefits in respect of freedom to work. I'm unlikely to work for an EFL organisation but have in recent months limited myself to a few private clients on a one-to-one basis. If I do, in fact, end up in Spain I would like to retain that work pattern (life/work balance and all that) but understand all that you say about registration as a self-employed person. Thank you for the heads-up.

Sean

Apart from Jim’s Guides on this site, you may find the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain of help with some of the many queries that you will have.   For anything to do with driving in Spain have a look at the N332 site.

Hi, sorry don't know your name (Englishmaster online)..

We move to the Costa Blanca (Monover, Pinoso, Elda area) mid June. We have chosen inland from Elche to be approximately 30 mins from the coast as we particularly wanted to avoid the 'little Britain' resorts and whilst wanting a good group of expats locally also want to fully integrate to the Spanish culture, way of life and the kind and helpful Spanish people in our area. Getting around in Spain has proven very easy as the road network is excellent and I personally have found it a much more relaxing experience, even coping with driving on the right hand side of the road.

I thought Kim's post was very interesting and does suggest there is a niche small business opportunity for you in teaching English to the Spanish and the corporate/business staff teaching angle could be a service you provide as and when you want to.

Every success with your move and please keep us posted with where you decide to settle and we can meet to welcome you 'home'.

Regards Paul and Mandy

Hello Englishmaster

Please consider Crevillent: totally Spanish: 20 minutes to the coast: 2 minutes to town and supermarkets:5 minutes the AVE: excellent health facilities, the best in the Costas: a rich town with very many bars and restaurants and a large number of people wanting English and or Spanish as a second language.

Kind regards

Richard
