Good idea, Beach is close by, very good communicated, everything available, university interesting neighbourhood. frequent direct local bus service to Alicante a/p and much more

I like Elche, a lot more than Alicante capital.
If you don't already speak spanish you will learn quickly.

Yes. I bought 3 bedroom apartment in Elche. I don't know of any bad areas but would not recommend Carrus neighborhood.....

I think Elche is very safe for living. Of course you should get used to Spanish way of life. I like it. Great weather, Great food and walks....
