Hiya,

I received a text message from my local medical centre back in December suggesting that I should make an appointment for Covid booster number 4 plus a flu jab as it was being predicted there would be higher than normal cases of the latter this winter. So, I went and got both done and within a couple of days I had a streaming cold and lousy cough.

Now after six weeks (and a negative covid test) I've managed to shake off the cold but just can't seem to get rid of the cough, I was just wondering if many other people have had an unusual chesty few weeks ?

Regards

Gary

I know several people who have had a dry cough for a few weeks here in Benidorm. They have tried a variety of cough meds and sweets to no avail.

Perhaps a mask might help.....😳

Bingo, I've had a cough since early December and it is just about begining to receded. I'm sure you know the old remedies such as taking a couple of spoonfuls of honey night and morning. Avoid coffee take chamomile (manzanilla in spanish) tea instead and avoid chocolate too as both are irritants. Around June last year I had a similar cough and my doctor told me that in the Benidorm area chesty coughs are common. Thus the reason you will notice the Spanish wear neck scarves in winter especially early in the day and when the sun is going down.

I had excellent results to get off the nastiest flew filling a highball glass half with hot water, the oter half with Bacardi White Rum, two tablespoons sugar and juice from 1 squeezed lemon. Better tkae it sitting down on your bed's edge and be prepared for a delirious night. But it helps. Less delirious is Frenadol from any chemist 2-3 per day.

Yes, both my wife had a dose of flu in November.  Slight temperature for which came down with a paracetamol, slight ache in the shoulders but negative for covid. Ironically, a week before we had the flu vac. My wife so bad she actually had to spend a couple of nights in hospital in Torrevieja. Luckily nothing that serious although she felt very washed out for a while. I wasn't that bad.

But the cough persisted. In my wife's case, until after Christmas and quite painful at some times. Pharmacy said there was a lot of that about and suggested bronchiolitis. Even the stuff you see advertised (Broncho Tos and BronchoStop) didn't seem to do much good.

Honey and lemon at night was the only thing that eased it enough to go to sleep.

Yes, same here. Negative test, so I assume it's just the usual winter cold that people get around this time. I think we're going to have to accept that not all sniffles are covid related.

Get yourself checked out with your local GP.

A COUGH SHOULDN'T  LAST that long. I’m hoping the cough has gradually eased at this stage. I had a horrible cough which lasted for over 3 weeks , phlegm gathering at the back of my throat.  Coughed so much on a few occasions that I was almost sick. Over here in Spain Id like to think the dry air would have helped to clear the cough. No cough should last this long so get checked out.  You may have a weak chest which could account for your difficulty in getting rid of it.  Lots of drinks with lemon juice and honey may help you.  Get well soon

You will probably picked up the cough in the medical centre, masks do not affect the spread of it,mine lasted about five weeks,I just gargled with salt water regularly through the day,a couple of hot whiskeys during the evening, this kept it down to just a mild inconvenience.Everywhere you go here in Benidorm people are coughing ,it is just a seasonal affliction that is all over Europe ,no big deal in the scheme of things.
