Good evening everyone!

We are Demelza and Richard, an English couple (aged 31 and 32) who moved to Elda from Girona about a month ago.

I work in wildlife conservation and as an English teacher, and Richard is a journalist (and rock climbing/winter sports enthusiast).

Due to the terrible covid situatuon, neither of us have been able to fly home and visit our families this year, and, as we know absolutely no one down here in Elda, it would be safe to say that, although we're enjoying exploring the town, we've been feeling a tad isolated and out of sorts!

Our Spanish is fairly proficient as we're now in our 3rd year living out here in Spain, but we're still both a bit shy when it comes to using it in social situations with natives.

If anyone would like to meet us for a coffee sometime, or even better, a beer ;) , please feel free to contact us. We have explored a few bars around town, but not many of the restaurants yet, so maybe someone would like to give us some pointers as to their favourite places to eat, practise their Spanish with us, or just hang out for some company, no matter the age :)

Take care!

Demelza and Richard

Hi Demelza and Richard,

I don't live near you, but I just wanted to say 'Hi' and welcome to the forum!

It's been a strange year and no sign of it getting back to the "old normal" any time soon.  I understand how you feel about not getting back to the UK to see family and friends.  My Dad's 92 and in good health, but I wouldn't risk travelling and potentially increasing his exposure to Covid-19.

I hope you can find people local to you for meet-ups.  It doesn't help that there just seems to be a lot less people out and about at the moment.

Best wishes,

Kim

Hi Demelza and Richard,

We are located in Petrer and often eat and more importantly drink in Elda. We are a little older than yourselves think Mid/early 50’s. Would be lovely to meet up and share stories, jokes and travel with you guys. Let us know when and we will be there !!

Welcome to our lovely town,

Karen and Warren

Hi Kim,

Thanks for the warm welcome. It's definitely difficult times for us all and especially strange for us expats who can't/won't risk going home to see family. I hope your dad is getting on OK. It's certainly a comfort to have found this forum and know there are other people in the area we can chat to.

Best wishes

Demelza

Hi.

Would it not be an idea to arrange a meet up set a place and a day and time. I have done this in the past it was ok but we seem to have quite a few more expats in and around Elda now. Just a thought.

I think this would be a good idea. It just depends how people are feeling about meeting in a group with the Covid situation. I'd personally really like to attend an expat meetup so if anyone is planning on arranging one, please keep me posted!

We set up an ex-pats group in Monovar just down the road from you, it was going well and numbers growing until Covid changed everything, there were more of us than I imagined and when we get back on top of this we'll get back together, maybe you could join us it's only 6km.

Absolutely! It's only 10 mins away in the car. When you have another get-together please do let me know and we'll pop down.
