After the Lebara technical update many sim cards simply would not work and when I contacted Lebara they told me I needed a new sim which they would happily send in the post but it would be a different number and they were not able to "port" my existing number to it.
The only way I could keep my number was to find a shop which sold Lebara sims.. buy one and "then" call customer services who could only then port my old number and any existing credit to it. The problem was I couldn't find a shop which sold them. (see footnote which may put a smile on your face)
So .... I went a got a Masmovil sim for €7 which included 18GB data, unlimited calls within Spain and 100 minutes of calls to the UK..... AND they "ported" my treasured number. So I thought great !!
Well that didnt work out´because I subsequently realised that after making a couple of calls to the UK I was being charged 0.43 cents connection charge although the call itself was included in my allowance.
So I thought "bugger that" and then discovered Lobster mobile https://www.lobster.es/ who offer 3 different Prepay plans starting with the one I actually chose ........ €12 per month / Unlimited calls to pretty much anywhere (inc UK) and 18GB data AND I got my original number ported across (previously ported from Lebara to Masmovil 3 days prior). Best of it is that you can turn it on and off as you like, they don´t insist on a direct debit each month, its a fully English website and I think all the staff are English.
And if that wasn´t enough .... there is currently a promotion meaning the first three top ups were discounted by 50% meaning you only pay €6 per month. I also discovered that if youré calling one of the many UK companies like Easyjet for instance who have a number prefix of 0330, 0333, 0203, 0371, then these are also included in your bundle.
I had been with Lebara for years and still think they are an ok Company, maybe just not as good since they were taken over by Masmovil.
Hopefully my convoluted mobile journey over the last week may help anyone who might be experiencing any problems with the current Lebara technical updates.
Footnote .... Only yesterday did I discover a local domestic appliance shop 100 metres from my front door sold Lebara sim cards (LOL)
