As far as buying a car is concerned, expect to pay an awful lot more for a second hand car here than in UK. There is no ‘fleet’ market here to ensure a regular turnover of vehicles and the Spanish tend to keep them for years and run them into the ground. It’s almost as expensive as buying a new car. Beware private adverts etc and only buy from registered dealers who will have all the paperwork and history; you also need to check whether the cost includes the ‘ownership transfer tax’ which adds another few hundred to the cost.
Summer work - do you speak Spanish? It’s going to be basically bar work/waiting/labouring, that kind of thing and the pay rates are again, much lower than UK. You are unlikely to get a ‘contract’ of employment, and the work may be intermittent. To work legally, you either need a contract, or to register as ‘autonomo’, which is self-employed, thus immediately bringing you into the Spanish tax and Social Security system. You will also have to have private medical insurance.
