I exchanged my UK license which I had used in Spain for 3 years back in 2019 for a Spanish license with very little effort just a quick medical and a couple of forms. It expires in 2024 will I be required to take a completely new test (theory and practical) I am a bit concerned as some of the stories I here make it sound difficult I will be 71 in 2024 and in no way will I be ready to give up driving. Thanks in anticipation of some information and advice.

You will have to take another medical which involves a eye test and a hand and eye coordination test, the one I did was at La Siesta medical centre and they did all the form filling etc, the licence arrived by post about a month latter

Thanks for the response .This is what I had to do when I changed my UK one for the Spanish one. Are you sure that is all that is needed to renew the license and if so why do they limit the duration to 5 years, do you think it’s because I will be over 70 when it expires

Sorry to tell you that when you reach 70 it is every 5 years , mind you if the examiner has any concerns he might only give you a new one for a year

Thank you, but does this mean a full driving test or as the previous answer said just the medical etc,

You're making hard work of this!

The process will be identical to when you first exchanged your UK licence.

Depending on your health YOU may get less than 5 years but that's all.

No driving test, just eye test and coordination test.
