Hi.

I have, what I think, are two Processionary Caterpillar nests in the tree, which is in the park adjacent to my house in Els Poblets.

Does anyone know if the town hall deal with these caterpillars?

I know they sprayed the trees against them 2 years ago but not to my knowledge last year.

Thanks.

Do not try to deal with it yourself contact the council if you do not know exactly what you are doing you could be in danger and do not listen to advice about burning them it's one of the worst things you can do.

Hi my house is surrounded by very tall pines, I have found the best method is prevention. The moths responsible, appear in late summer. An off-the-shelf insecticide works in controlling the amount of moths laying their eggs. (of course too late now!) and you can´t get ém all.

For the high-up nests (usually first spotted on dewy mornings in December) A high-powered air-rifle (putting a hole or two or three in the nests) allows a parasite in and the catterpilars do not drop or process therefore reducing the next batch of moths. Hope this helps (also it´s good for target practice!)
