A "Which?" consumer organisation report this month shows that Europcar's budget brands, Interrent and Goldcar, are the worst (I don't think too many of us will be surprised by that!) - see the table below extracted from the full report:

Customers reporting a problem with their car hire

Interrent          47%

Goldcar           42%

Thrifty              31%

Dollar              29%

Firefly              29%

Budget            28%

Avis                 27%

Centauro         27%

Hertz               27%

Europcar         24%

Enterprise       21%

Alamo             20%

Sixt                 18%

Auto Reisen     8%

Cicar                7%

The report finishes with a form, inviting people to report their own experiences.

Kind regards,

Kim

I see the usual suspects are at the top  again!! , I'd put hiring a car as one of the most stressful things to do for planning a holiday !

Most Spanish car hire companies don’t care about their service, reputation or customer care. They accept it is a cowboy industry with a grab what you can attitude, and if you don’t like it go elsewhere. It’s a case of tolerate it or a caravan in Skegness. Your chice.

People we know use Gildcar as they are one of a very few companies that do not charge extra for over 70's. They take out insurance in the UK and in fact have had some really good hire prices with them.

For us we had enough of the hire cars at Alicante airport and bought a car in Spain 9 year ago we store it at the airport with Plane Parking who are very reliable and it has really worked for us. Of course if you don't get to your holiday home often enough or it's just a holiday rental you have not really economical. But if you rent out your place then including a car hire into the price could be an attractive option.
