Hi all,

It's now official - trips from England to second homes abroad are specifically banned from Thursday this week.  These new rules in England start at the beginning of Thursday, i.e. from midnight Weds/Thurs, not Thursday night.

See section 11. Travel, the paragraph that commences  "Overnight stays and holidays....." :

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-national-restrictions-from-5-november

Kind regards,

Kim

Hello

This is the relevant  paragraph that Kim has mentioned in her post.

"Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed. This includes holidays abroad and in the UK. It also means you cannot stay in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes, but this means people cannot travel overseas or within the UK, unless for work, education or other legally permitted reasons".

This is until Wednesday 2nd Dec....at the moment!

Cheers

I believe you are also allowed to travel for legal/financial reasons, appointments etc.

Hi Snoxell,

Please would you add a link to the official information regarding, "travel for legal/financial reasons, appointments etc.".  I made my original post in response to a couple of specific questions on the forum, so it would be helpful to have the official definition of the exemptions you've suggested.

Thanks and regards,

Kim

Thanks Snoxell.  It seems travellers would need to read Section 12. as well, "Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed - including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home or caravan.....".  So the document taken as a whole seems to suggest that someone could travel to complete on the purchase of a property, but not to stay in one that they already own...... 🤔

Kind regards,

Kim

Hello

The only answer is..they've broken the current rules set by the UK government,  whether knowingly, I don't know but  why   would you not check if you were intending to travel.

The more people who  break the rules in both countries be it----safe   distancing, mask wearing, group meetings over 6 people, & travelling, the longer the virus will continue to spread & more restrictions will apply to everyone!!

Cheers

Hi Boandtia,

I don't know your neighbours, but perhaps they meet the conditions of one of the exceptions?  Why don't you ask them.

Kind regards,

Kim
