An interesting take on the reason for the quarantine.

How funny, I actually said to hubby last night that I thought the motivation for suspending the Spanish 'air bridge' was because they need the tourist money spent in the UK. The only thing this article doesn't include is my further view that, in pitching it the way they have, the UK government has effectively set up Spain to take the blame for any subsequent infection rate spike that may occur in the UK - so typical of BoJo: "It's anybody's fault, except mine".
"I am proud to be British and the economy in that country has given me the ability to operate a successful business that has allowed me to retire wherever choose"
And now denied your heirs the same opportunity, what crass hypocrisy.
Under Johnson and his sycophantic cronies UK is now a virtual dictatorship on a self destructive path in search of a long lost, and frankly not that noble, a past.
By turning it's back on the EU, the world's biggest and most successful trading partnership, it's condemning itself to be no more than a small and inconsequential island off the coast of Europe and on it's way to becoming a vassal state of the US.
I'm British and I love my country as much as any man or woman but far from being proud of it I'm sad and ashamed.

What do you sell in your corner shop?
Just papers or do you do toffees as well?

There is a lot of stress on this lately.

Not just a hypocrite but apparently a bit slow on the uptake too, why do you think I highlighted "that has allowed me to retire wherever choose"
That's what the UK you're so proud of and are sticking up for are denying, and not just your heirs but also the vast majority of the thousands of ordinary people who's dreams of retiring to Spain will lie in tatters if not already then finally on Dec 31st.
Here's is but one summary of why I'm sad and ashamed of what UK has allowed itself to become,
With such scant and passing respect for the truth there can be little doubt that it's going to get worse.

In my opinion, that article falls into the usual "I've a drum and I'm going to bash it" category, that far too much of the media fall into nowadays. It's little more than a ranty blog post. I wouldn't even rank it as a journalistic opinion piece. I don't disagree with some of it, but the whole thing is tainted by the obvious bias in the writer.
As for the notion that the new quarantine measures are about getting people to stay and spend in the UK which seems to be doing the rounds at the moment, sorry, that's complete nonsense. Even a government with the ineptitude of the present Tory one can quickly do the maths and realise it doesn't stack up. Not to mention... Have you actually tried to buy anything substantial at the moment? Everywhere is sold out! One of the few retail sectors that is struggling for new sales right now is fashion, and for them, people not going to sunny climes is a sales killer not maker, being that most are rammed full of summer stock that they can't shift.
Why has the government removed the Spanish air-bridge? Pure incompetent knee-jerk reaction I suspect. Bojo saw Spain on the BBC news on Sat evening and had it on the ban list 20mins later, taking all his "informed facts" from an incorrect news item. Until Spain hit the mainstream media news on Saturday few knew of the outbreaks there. We all did, as we have a connection to the country, but most are oblivious to such things. I've a lot of family in Victoria, Australia, so know all about what is going on there, but most don't.

No surprise! I follow international themes in general and that includes England. It is distressing that England has left the EU and that it is ruled unopposed by a gang of morons - but then "they voted for it", I am certain that at the next election from which I am excluded, many will see the foolishness of their vote. The forum is also a very useful source of how the rules change in Spain and how people are reacting to them. I also read El Confidencial and El Periódic.
