Spain has extended its entry restrictions for visitors from non-EU countries, including the UK, until at least the 15th November - the extension was published in Spain’s Official State Gazette (BOE) on Thursday, 15th September.  As a result, travellers from non-EU countries such as the UK, who don’t live in Spain, will still have to show one of the following three documents to be able to enter the country:

  • A Covid-19 vaccination certificate –  Your vaccination status must meet the Spanish authorities’ validity period requirements.  If more than 270 days have passed since your initial vaccination, you need to show proof of a booster,
OR
  • A negative Covid-19 test – This should be either a PCR, taken within 72 hours prior to departure, or an antigen test, taken within 24 hours prior to departure,
OR
  • A recovery certificate –  This must be dated within the last six months.

As the UK is on the list of Third Countries that have signed up to the EU's Digital Covid Certificate equivalence system, you can prove this by showing a digital or paper certificate issued by the relevant authorities, e.g. the NHS.

None of the above requirements apply to children under the age of 12.

All Covid-19 restrictions within Spain have ended, with the exception of having to wear a mask on public transport, in pharmacies, hospitals and care homes.

EDIT: PLEASE NOTE that, as of today, 20 September 2022 the Ministerio de Sanidad has announced that it is no longer necessary to complete the Spanish Health Control Form to enter Spain, irrespective of your vaccination status.  Therefore, UK citizens only need to provide one of the 3 documents listed above.

We flew into Alicante 2 weeks ago they have now started random checks on covid status. But it's still advisable to have all required documentation as they could select you.

But the good news is that, as of today, 20 September, Spain's Ministerio de Sanidad has said that it's no longer necessary to complete the Spanish Health Control Form to enter Spain, irrespective of your vaccination status.  I've updated my original post to reflect this change.

Kim,

thanks for the info. Regarding the 270 days/booster requirement, do you know if that has changed at all?

I arrived last Friday evening with my wife, we were both stopped and had our covid passports checked, also given a very nice thank you using our forenames by the checker as well!

There was also a sign up asking those arriving to consider wearing a mask in the airport, though hardly anyone did.

Not sure why Spain is continuing with these third country checks when just about every other country in Europe has dropped them but it's hardly a issue for vaccinated Brits as getting the NHS passport is so easy. Could be that they are worried about a autumn surge in infections, as has happened in the last two years?

Aitch.

Costa Blanca News

www.costa-news.com

States, Covid 19 paperwork checks has ended from today. The ministry for health has said it was no longer necessary for travellers from non EU countries to present a covid passport or to fill in the Spanish travel health (SpTH) website form when non EU travellers enter Spain by air or sea. However, health minister Caroline Darias said it is still obligatory to wear face mask on flights to and from Spain.  Full report in Fridays Costa Blanca News. I hope the link above works.

I am afraid that the Costa Blanca news sometime today changed its story, as l understand it, you do need a covid passport, please read other post on this topic. My apologies.

It’s the airlines’ decision on whether their travellers are required to wear face masks, and it is them who will enforce it, not the Spanish authorities. As to having a Covid passport, I would advise everybody to have a copy with them, just in case it is requested when arriving at any airport. Not worth the risk in my opinion

Hi Peter,

I'm afraid the link doesn't work for me.  Are you sure that it says, "The ministry for health said it was no longer necessary for travellers from non EU countries to present a covid passport or to fill in the Spanish travel health (SpTH) website.....".  The statement from the Ministerio de Sanidad says that the Covid vaccination certificate is one of 3 either/or options that must be completed, whilst it is the SpTH that no longer needs to be completed from today, 20 September.

Kind regards,

Kim

Ok, keep your hair on, SteveC61. l was just passing on information that l read this morning and some airlines do require you to wear a face mask, especially Spanish based airlines. As l had read Kimmy11 post last evening and liked her post for sharing this informationand since made a edit. As for Kimmy11 asking about the covid passport being not necessary and cannot use the link, since this morning, it has been re written stating that only the online form was not required now, so yes you need your covid 19 passport, check out link

www.costa-news.com

Hopefully it works.

I do apologise for any confusion and hope l have corrected my post from this morning as l have been to the beach most of the day. It’s good to talk. Have a good evening.
