Time for me to change to a bike, 20yrs ago I could run faster than 30km’s Lol.  Bob

Wow!  You must have been a top-class athlete, that's amazing!  Congratulations.  I guess it's all something of an anti-climax for you now, though.  Do you still run?

Thanks Kim

I had read about this and feel in built up areas it definitely makes sense, but it will be dangerous on roads where many people who speed already, will no doubt be frantically taking over and swapping in and out of lanes around the rule followers!

Also will all road signs be altered to new limits in time hmm!

This will be a problem as you stated, that people who are oblivious to the limit overtaking and making it even more dangerous. Many Spanish are members of Social Drive ( me too) a web site that keeps you up-to-date on radar points in every province, 3 million members and yes legal too.

I wouldn’t call myself a top athlete 😀 100m runners do 46km’s. I don’t run now because my cartilage’s are on the way out, so I’m saving them for skiing ⛷ and there’s definitely no 30km speed limit for that. 😂😂

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I was thinking about visitors ( when they can) arrive unaware of the new speed limits, if there are no new road signs informing drivers of the change what would be the legal position if the driver was driving at the speed shown on the out of date signs, but according to the new rules they would be considered to be speeding?

set cruise control to 20kpmh to be on the safe side and stay calm when speeding pedestrians/ cyclists/ scooters/ mobility wagons pass you.

I think it will be difficult keeping to such low speeds without stalling or burning the clutch out..and keeping an eye on the speedometer..

I wonder if more "local" car users will buy electric bikes now as a result of this and will they need fitting with speed limiters, lol ?

Me on an e bike? I don’t think so...but, another query. My son in law will hopefully be visiting this summer and using our car. Should he be “speeding”, and  gets caught by a static camera, will my husband lose points on his license as the car is registered in his name? Also, visitors in hire cars will not be aware of the drastic changes, another way to collect money? I agree that speed can be an issue but think these measures have not really been thought out. How can we know which is a “main” road or arterial or side road through an urbanization, and how can you overtake without increasing speed.?  Just hope that there will be limit signs on each road..., I’m starting saving for a new clutch already as Kimmy said, it’s almost impossible to get out of third gear at 30 mph, never mind at 20 mph!  Good luck folks!

Not been here long enough to have a view in Spain but typically in France many traffic violations are captured by police with speed detection equipment. If a tourist in a UK car fines are on the spot or they take you to a cash point, not much fun I can assure you :)

If the offence is captured by automated means here, in a Spanish registered vehicle then, like you, I suspect the registered keeper will be the recipient of the points and a fine subject to appeal? It works like this in the UK as well I think for speed cameras.

If you have digital certificates you can see if you have any fines pending - which is nice lol.

Happy motoring :)

😄😄 As my beloved will gleefully tell you, the registered keeper is not liable for the points if the driver is permitted on the insurance documents and acknowledges being the offender.

Had he been liable, I’d have had a “clean” license as all the points I managed to accumulate were in his car.

Maybe if I’d denied being the driver? I’d perhaps be a divorcee by now ☹️🤪🥂
