Whereas it is a good idea in theory to lower speed limits to reduce accidents I suspect that I smell a money making scheme at the root of it.
It really is pathetic to have such a slow limit. My car will not get out of second gear, so I might as well get a bl**dy bike. Cars' braking systems have improved a lot since 1930.
It's pretty much the same idea in the UK with the use of these pop-up camera vans. They bleat on about safety ie 'safety cameras' but it just another name for a money grabber. Why would they develop a long range camera lens that can catch you up to a mile away? I like to think I'm old enough to judge for myself what a safe speed may be for the prevailing conditions.
Here in Spain it will become even more of a nightmare in towns as pedestrians already walk out onto crossings without looking expecting cars to be able to stop dead. Now they will just do it anywhere.
