Exercising my right to vote

I've received a letter from the Oficina del censo electoral enclosing a form for me to tick boxes if I wish to exercise my right to vote in the municipal elections post Brexit.

I visit our apartment in Formentera 4/5 times each year and don't feel the need to vote but I am concerned about declining this right post Brexit in case it affects anything else I may be entitled to in the village - using it's facilities for example.

Can anyone offer any advice please. Do I lose anything by not voting?

Thanks in advance

Helen

As Kim indicates, unless you're resident here then you shouldn't be on the padrón. Post-Brexit, it's academic, as the right to vote in local elections is only for nationals of EU member states.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I may have inadvertently signed on to the padron

We too have received a letter re voting also had one a few years ago. We don't obviously choose to vote as we are non resident. We have signed a padron and you don't need to be resident to do this. You need a Padron to buy a car, have a telephone line installed, use the communal facilities. You pay your community charges and the village benefits from your being on the padron as the more home owners on it the more money or services eg bus services they get.

You can sign the padron you don't need to be permanently resident in Formentera.

The law specifically states that you must only sign on the padrón if you are habitually resident here. Some town halls do encourage non-residents to sign on as they then get extra money from government. As government money comes from taxpayers like myself, anyone illegally signing on the padrón is costing me money.

I look forward to the day when Agencia Tributaria get their act together and start demanding tax returns from everyone who is declaring that they are resident by signing on the padrón.
