I am at a loss to know the difference. Maybe the inventor of the expat title felt it sounded better than what we are … immigrants. Just my opinion.

For my money I prefer the term immigrant.Ex-Pat conjures up too many negative images of golf clubs,God Save the Queen and being superior to foreigners.Just my opinion.

According to that definition many who would term themselves immigrants are in fact unknowingly expats!
Honestly though they are just words with no legal meaning so for all intents and purposes are totally interchangeable.

Spot on, expat is an idiotic term used by idiotic snobs.

Spain refers to us as foreigners which is, after all, what we are, unless we apply for citizenship which many/ most don't.
Sangrientos extranjeros starts to sound very English and makes us feel at home :)
